To Learn More:

For decades, the annual STLHE conference has been a cornerstone of our community by bringing together educators, scholars, leaders, and students from across Canada to advance teaching and learning in higher education. It has provided a space for scholarly exchange, mentorship, recognition, and meaningful connection.

Over the past year, the STLHE Board of Directors undertook a careful review of how our conference model can best serve members in a rapidly changing post-secondary landscape. This included examining conference models used by peer associations, alongside a comprehensive financial review of STLHE and its conferences. These efforts highlighted the need to respond to evolving member needs, rising costs, and our shared commitment to accessibility, equity, and long‑term sustainability.

As a result, the Board has approved a new conference structure beginning in 2027: two complementary annual conferences: 1) a summer in‑person conference hosted at an academic institution, and 2) a fall virtual conference. Together, these events are designed to expand access, reduce barriers to participation, and ensure the continued strength and relevance of the STLHE conference experience.

The STLHE Virtual Conference plays a central role in this renewed structure. It offers high-quality keynotes and concurrent presentations alongside a flexible, accessible option for members who may face financial, geographic, caregiving, or workload constraints, while maintaining the same level of scholarly rigour and significance as the in‑person event. As a pilot offering, this virtual conference will also provide valuable insight to help us refine and strengthen future virtual gatherings. We look forward to learning from participant feedback as we continue to build a conference model that reflects the diversity, excellence, and values of the STLHE community.
