Join the 51ÁÔÆæÈë¿ÚAlumni Council – nominations are open!

September 11, 2026

The 51ÁÔÆæÈë¿ÚAlumni Council exemplifies how our graduates bring their diverse professional expertise, lived experiences, and leadership to influence and support SFU’s strategic initiatives.

Council members are accomplished professionals dedicated to expanding SFU’s impact and building meaningful, lasting connections among alumni and the university.

We are currently accepting nominations from our alumni to join the Council. All nominees should bring their unique professional and lived experiences, strong governance expertise, and robust community/industry ties to serve in these dynamic volunteer roles.

Things to Know

  • The Alumni Council focuses on high-level governance and is not a working board.
  • Alumni Council meetings are held at least three times per year.
  • Members are self-nominated and will be evaluated based on a skills and attributes matrix.
  • Members typically serve for 2-year terms, with the possible reappointment for up to an additional 3-year term, not exceeding 6 consecutive years.
  • As leadership volunteers, Council members represent 51ÁÔÆæÈë¿Úat events, connect with our alumni across regions, and amplify SFU’s mission and impact through their personal and professional networks.
  • Open to all alumni, including those residing outside of North America.

We are seeking diverse representation from our global alumni and graduates from all 51ÁÔÆæÈë¿Úfaculties. In particular, we encourage graduates of health sciences, environment, and science as well as those with experience in innovation and entrepreneurship to consider serving on Council. Self-nominate by October 27, 2026.
