Caminando con Pehu茅n (Walking with Pehu茅n) is a multidisciplinary project consisting of an experimental documentary film, an installation of printed and projected works, and a series of community documentary screenings. Together, the work seeks to re-situate the Pehu茅n tree (Araucaria araucana) within the histories and relationships from which it has been separated, thinking alongside histories of extractive forestry, colonial botany, and territorial dispossession. The project builds on an interest in memory work, image making, and being-in-relation, asking: What histories can an image hold? What relations can an image hold? What are non-extractive and relational ways of working with humans and more-than-human collaborators in a moving image practice? The defense, and accompanying paper, reflects on the process of making the work鈥 thinking alongside scholarship on multiplicity, relation and co-creation, history and archives, decolonial visuality, and material approaches to image making.
