In the 2019-20 academic year the Department of Geography ran a number of signature events. The Communications & Events Committee worked diligently to prepare an engaging calendar of events that allowed for alumni participation in various ways. For example, in our recent Travelogues event (Feb/20), one of our speakers was alumnus Dr. Bob Huish. Bob is currently a faculty member at Dalhousie University. His recent presentation at 51猎奇入口spoke to his work to understand health and human rights in North Korea and the ways he is doing this without being able to conduct on-site fieldwork. You can learn more about Bob鈥檚 critical global health research through his podcast, the Unfortunately, the event that enables us to have the deepest alumni engagement, our Distinguished Speaker visit, was cancelled due to COVID-19-related closures.
We are excited to announce that we have a new Department of Geography LinkedIn group. A main purpose of this group is to enable current departmental members let alumni members know about opportunities to participate in events. This includes learning about upcoming events, as well as opportunities to do things such as participate as a panellist or speaker. We invite all departmental alumni to join this group. If you鈥檙e unable to find the group, please reach out to us at geogalum@sfu.ca and we will assist you with connecting.
