The evolution of technology and way that it interacts with and shapes our society is a core part of many programs in our faculty.

A Communication degree provides students with a foundation in critical thinking, reading, analysis and production that allows them to study the cultures, histories, technologies, and ideologies of the media and communication infrastructures in our society to inform and shape how we experience technology and how we interact as a society. Courses in the Publishing Minor examine the way technology is both print and digital publishing. The School of Communication鈥檚 Transnational Culture and Digital Technology Lab is dedicated to the study of transnationality in its multiple forms and geographies, as well as its cultural impacts, economics, and cultural politics. The  integrates research in the humanities and data sciences to address questions of equality and social justice. It will combat the proliferation of online 鈥渆cho chambers鈥� and discriminatory algorithms by creating alternative data literacies and paradigms for connection: from applications and methods to transforming hostile social media exchanges into productive dialogues, to critical analyses of fake news and its historical evolution. 

Students in the School of Interactive Arts & Technology learn how technology impacts and shapes our society through hands-on experience with new media, digital arts, user experience theory, computation, and design. Students build a portfolio of their work through collaborating with their peers and instructors. In a varieyt of labs and research groups, SIAT faculty members work with students to study cutting-edge technologies that shape our society.
