We are working to improve the parking experience at SFU, and to make parking easier to find, and less congested, in the North Lot and East Lot for Outdoor Parking Permit holders. 

• Beginning September 1, North Lot and East Lot will have dedicated areas for permit parking, and separate areas for visitors, FlexPass and hourly/app parking. 
• Barriers will separate the areas, with signage explaining the reconfiguration. 
• Accessible parking spaces will remain in the same area. 
• EVO Carshare parking in East Lot will be expanded.

These changes are intended to improve parking availability for permit holders during the busiest weeks of the term. 

If visitor parking in your preferred lot is full, please proceed to the next available visitors parking area. Visitor parking is available in the North and East Lot visitor area, Central Parkade Upper Level, or in the South Lot, South Parkade, West Parkade, or Residence West Lot. North Lot is also part of our real鈥憈ime parking availability pilot. Check availability before you arrive to help plan your day on Burnaby campus. 

Evo has expanded its one-way service to parts of Surrey, including SFU鈥檚 Surrey City Centre Main Lot. This provides another convenient option for students, faculty and staff travelling between Burnaby and Surrey campuses.  

At Burnaby Campus, Evo parking is available in West Parkade and the upper level of the East Parking Lot.  

SFU's Burnaby campus offers two different types of electric vehicle charging stations on campus: Level 1 and 2 charging. Currently, all electricity provided at the EV chargers is at no cost to users. 

Starting November 1:

• Level 2 EV charging will move to a cost-recovery model, meaning users will pay for parking and for the electricity they consume at BC Hydro rates. This approach aligns costs with usage, while helping ensure charging infrastructure remains available and sustainable as demand grows.
• Level 1 EV charging in West Parkade 6000 will remain complimentary for indoor permit holders. There are 42 spaces at this location.

Surrey SRYE鈥檚 Level 2 charging will also move to the same cost-recovery model based on BC Hydro rates starting November 1. 

• Permit parking rates will increase by an average of two per cent, effective September 1, 2026. Rates will vary based on parking type, location, and demand.
• To align more with other parking options, Flexpass will increase to $88 (tax included).
• There are no changes to hourly/app rates.

Parking revenues help fund the operation, maintenance and improvement of SFU's parking facilities, which are supported through a self-funded model to support your campus experience. Rate adjustments help cover ongoing costs such as the free campus community shuttle, pavement maintenance, lighting, snow and ice control, security, signage, accessibility improvements and parking technology that support daily operations. 

We recognize that parking is an additional cost for many members of our community. Rate adjustments are kept as low as possible while ensuring 51猎奇入口can continue to operate and maintain parking facilities that support teaching, learning and campus activities.

Parking demand is highest during the first several weeks of the fall term, and popular lots such as North Lot, East Lot and West Parkade may reach capacity during peak periods, so please be prepared in advance.

To help make your trip to campus smoother:

• Consider parking in South Lot or Residence West Lot when other lots are full.  

• Take advantage of the free Campus Community Shuttle, which provides convenient service between parking areas and key campus destinations.

• North Lot parking lot availability is available online to help direct drivers to available parking. 

• Consider using a car share service like Evo, which now has parking space availability in both Burnaby and Surrey campuses.
