Vancouver Facebook Neighborhood Group Study
Title: Vancouver鈥檚 Facebook Neighbourhood Groups Impact on Property Crime Survey
Do Facebook Neighbourhood Groups in Vancouver have an impact on property crime? That鈥檚 what we鈥檙e trying to figure out. Facebook Neighbourhood Groups can be a great way to gain a sense of community, find out what is going on within the neighbourhood from the comfort of your home. But what about the crime posts? Do those help prevent or reduce crime? We ask these questions in relation to property crimes specifically because there can be a lot of those posts in these groups.
Who can participate?
Vancouver residents meet the following criteria :
a. 19+
b. Live in 1 of these 12 neighbourhoods: Arbutus Ridge, Central Business District, Grandview-Woodland, Hastings-Sunrise, Kensington Cedar-Cottage, Mount Pleasant, Renfrew Collingwood, Stanley Park, Strathcona, Victoria-Fraserview, West-Point Grey and the West End,
c. and a member of their Facebook Neighbourhood Group.
What's involved?
It鈥檚 a short 10-15 minute survey. Questions are on the following topics: Facebook Neighbourhood Group posts and how active the group is, crime and disorder, crime prevention aspect of the Facebook Neighbourhood Group, the Vancouver Police Department. You'll also answer a few demographic questions as well. Participation is 100% anonymous.
