Employment Opportunities in MSE
Mechatronic Systems Engineering (MSE) welcomes qualified graduate and undergraduate students to apply for Teaching Assistant (TA) positions for MSE courses. Students must apply/reapply and be selected for TA positions each term. All positions are subject to budgetary approval and sufficient enrollment.

MSE 490 Special Topic: Technology Entrepreneurship

Minimum Qualifications:
- Evidence of education, training, or practical experience in entrepreneurship, innovation, business, technology commercialization, new venture creation, or a related field.
- Appointment to the position normally requires at least one year of relevant experience or equivalent training. Examples include prior Teaching Assistant positions in entrepreneurship, business, innovation, or technology-related courses; experience supporting student teams or experiential learning; startup, innovation, or industry experience; or relevant coursework in entrepreneurship, business strategy, innovation management, or related disciplines.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate and provide constructive feedback on business concepts, opportunity assessments, customer discovery activities, business models, presentations, and other course assignments. Candidates should be able to facilitate discussions, support student learning, and communicate entrepreneurship concepts clearly and effectively.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with students, instructors, and project teams in a dynamic learning environment.
- Proficiency with common productivity software, including word processing (e.g., Microsoft Word), spreadsheets (e.g., Microsoft Excel), and presentation software (e.g., Microsoft PowerPoint). Familiarity with collaborative platforms (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Zoom, or Google Workspace) and entrepreneurship tools (e.g., Business Model Canvas, Lean Canvas, or project management software) is considered an asset.
MSE courses are scheduled for in-person delivery and TAs are expected to be available in-person for all scheduled class, and lab and/or tutorial assignments for the duration of the contract.
The salary for each base unit is $1,242. Masters鈥� students receive an additional scholarship amount of $190 per base unit and Ph.D. students receive an additional scholarship of $420 per base unit. Estimated base unit assignments may vary depending on final enrollment numbers. Based on the 2022-2024 TSSU Wage Schedules (sfu.ca).
