Mechatronics professor honoured with Design Automation Award

Mechatronics professor Gary Wang has been named the recipient of the Design Automation Award at the ASME 2026 International Design Engineering Technical Conferences & Computers and Information in Engineering Conference (IDETC/CIE 2026).

Wang has been recognized for his pioneering contributions to engineering optimization and its applications in product design and advanced manufacturing, as well as his leadership and service to the Design Automation community. His current research explores generative optimization, combining generative AI with mathematical optimization to advance the next generation of automated design.

, held this August in Houston, Texas, is an annual event that brings together leading design and manufacturing engineers from academia, government and industry. The conference provides a platform to explore emerging technologies and discuss key challenges in product design and development, manufacturing, and the management and integration of information systems throughout the product life cycle.
