Artistic Works
Overview
I was trained in classical ballet, contemporary and other dance techniques in Montr茅al, Toronto, Banff, New York City and London, England. After graduating from England鈥檚 Royal Ballet School, I danced professionally with major classical and contemporary companies in Canada, the United States, Europe and the Middle East, touring and performing in North America, Europe and Asia in a performing career spanning more than thirty years.
These companies included:
- Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, Montr茅al, 1965鈥1968
- Sadler鈥檚 Wells Royal Ballet, London, England, 1968
- Ballet de Gen猫ve, Geneva, Switzerland, 1969
- Bat-Dor Dance Company, Tel-Aviv, Israel, 1970鈥1972
- Classical Ballet of Israel (guest) 1972
- Oakland Ballet, Oakland, California (guest) 1972鈥1974
- Festival Ballet of Canada, Ottawa, Ontario, summer, 1973
- Ballet Rambert, London, England, 1974鈥1976
- Judith Marcuse Repertory Dance Company of Canada (later Judith Marcuse Dance Company), 1983鈥1996
After establishing the Judith Marcuse Dance Projects Society in 1980, I turned my focus to choreography, artistic direction and production, and continued to work with other organizations in Canada and abroad to produce and create for theatre, opera and musical theatre, and for television and film. My repertory dance company toured in Canada and internationally for over 15 years and, during this period, pioneered innovative community residency and youth programs.
In addition to creating over 100 original works for live performance by dance, theatre and opera companies and many projects for film and television, I also produced seven large-scale arts festivals: the Kiss Projects on Granville Island (1995-2000) and the International EARTH World Urban Festival (2004). I taught dance in many settings as well, ranging from 51猎奇入口to the Alvin Ailey Company, from the York University Dance Program to Ballet Rambert.
