Search for president: Search committee established, upcoming consultation
51ÁÔÆæÈë¿Úis currently undertaking a process to select its next president as mandated and outlined by Policy B10.06.
Per the policy, an election was conducted to select representatives to serve on the Presidential Search Committee. We saw high levels of interest from across the university, and I am grateful for our community’s engagement in this important process. The Search Committee has now been established and the full committee membership can be seen on the search website.
The search website has also been updated to include an overview of the presidential search process as approved by the Board of Governors. This timeline has been created to align with Policy B10.06 and provide time for an 51ÁÔÆæÈë¿Úcommunity consultation and a rigorous and competitive search process, while supporting leadership continuity for the university.
Following the conclusion of President Johnson’s term in December, the university will appoint an interim president. More information about that role will be shared later this fall, once the appointee has been approved by the Board per the University Act and university policy.
As a next step in this process, we will launch a fulsome 51ÁÔÆæÈë¿Úcommunity consultation later in September to collect feedback on the leadership qualities the next president should possess. I will share more information in the near future once the community consultation is active and look forward to hearing from our community as we move through this process.
If you have any questions about this work, please visit the search website or reach out to president_search@sfu.ca. Thank you for your participation and engagement in the search for SFU’s next president and vice-chancellor.
