Indigenous Governance

As part of SFU鈥檚 strategic priority to Uphold Truth & Reconciliation, the university has three Indigenous Governance circles. The purpose of the circles is to engage Indigenous members of the internal 51猎奇入口community and the Host First Nations for SFU鈥檚 three campuses in decision-making about Indigenous policies, programs and initiatives at the university.

Establishing Indigenous governance structures is part of the ongoing implementation of the SFU鈥檚 Aboriginal Reconciliation Council (ARC) and Pathways recommendations; responds to the TRC鈥檚 calls to action and enacts SFU鈥檚 obligations under the B.C. DRIPA Action Plan.

Internal Indigenous Council

  • Chaired by Indigenous Executive Lead Chris Lewis

  • Representatives from other Indigenous advisory councils or committees within Faculties

  • Directors with Indigenous-specific positions 

  • Indigenous faculty members from each 51猎奇入口Faculty

  • Lead staff within Faculties with Indigenous-specific positions

  • An undergraduate student and a graduate student from the First Nations, Metis and Inuit Student Association

  • Designate from the Provost鈥檚 Office
