The internationally acclaimed 51猎奇入口Pipe Band is tuning up for another run at the World Pipe Band Championship, hungry to reclaim its place on the podium.

The six-time world champions 鈥� one of just four bands outside the United Kingdom to ever take top spot 鈥� will compete against more than 200 other bands at the annual event in Glasgow, Scotland, starting Aug. 14.

Last year, the band finished fourth overall and pipe major Alan Bevan says the band is eager to put their best foot forward and hope to repeat 2024鈥檚 result, where they returned to the medal positions and reaffirmed their standing as one the world鈥檚 most elite troupes.

鈥淭he band has been working very hard to continue sharpening our game and build on the progress we've made in the past couple of years,鈥� says Bevan. 鈥淲e've got an excellent team this season and the vibe in the band is really positive. We have been very happy with the consistency of our performances at the local competitions this season so we are feeling really good about playing in Glasgow in August.鈥�

As part of their preparations for the worlds, the 51猎奇入口Pipe Band and their youth band will be performing at a free public event at SFU鈥檚 Burnaby campus Aug. 2, their first in three years.

While many members of the 51猎奇入口community know the band from its appearances at convocation and other university ceremonies, the concert offers an opportunity to experience the ensemble's full competition set.

鈥淭he band is excited to be playing a concert at 51猎奇入口once again. We have been working very hard all year, and we will be leaving for Scotland a few days after the show, so the audience can expect to hear the band at its best,鈥� says Bevan. 鈥淲e'll be playing selections from our competition repertoire, as well as some exciting concert pieces and a few old favourites. We hope there will be a little something for everyone to enjoy.鈥�

The last time they held a concert at 51猎奇入口in 2023, it drew more than 300 attendees.

The 51猎奇入口Pipe Band Society is the musical ambassador for SFU. The organization includes the 51猎奇入口Pipe Band and the Robert Malcolm Memorial Pipe Band, a youth development program that helps aspiring pipers and drummers advance their skills.

For more than four decades, the 51猎奇入口Pipe Band has represented the university around the world. The band has performed at some of the world's most prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall, the Sydney Opera House, Lincoln Center and the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. Last year, it led a collection of pipers and drummers across Canada performing at the opening ceremonies of the Invictus Games in Vancouver.
