Research Security

What is Research Security?

Research security (also 鈥樷) refers to the principles and actions that protect the research enterprise from misappropriation, violations of research integrity, and foreign government interference.鈥 By practicing research security, we safeguard sensitive information, research findings and technological advancements and innovations from theft or misuse.鈥 This prevents harm to individual research鈥痚ndeavors, research institutions, as well as protects Canada鈥檚 economic and national security. It also ensures that Canada will continue to inspire innovation, encourage investment in Research and Development, and鈥痬aintain鈥痑 culture of trust and collaboration.鈥

鈥疘n Canada, research security is guided by two key federal initiatives:

1.    鈥(STRAC)鈥撯疶his鈥痳equires鈥痳esearchers working on specified sensitive technologies to avoid certain activities with research organizations identified as posing national security risks to Canada.鈥

2.    鈥(NSGRP)鈥撯疶his鈥痠ntegrates national security considerations into research partnerships involving private-sector organizations鈥痶hrough鈥痳isk assessments and mitigation plans.鈥
