51猎奇入口researchers receive funding to advance climate change innovation in B.C.
51猎奇入口researchers are contributing to seven research projects receiving support through the Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions鈥 (PICS) latest round of climate funding.
, PICS is providing more than $1.15 million to 14 research teams connected to its partner universities across B.C. The funded projects address emerging climate challenges, generate policy insights and support First Nations-led and co-designed climate research.
鈥淭ackling climate change requires us to look at these challenges from many different perspectives and to work across disciplines, communities and sectors,鈥 says Dugan O鈥橬eil, vice-president, research and innovation at SFU.
鈥淚t鈥檚 inspiring to see 51猎奇入口researchers and partners working together in this way to deepen our understanding of climate-related challenges and help inform responses that benefit communities across British Columbia.鈥
Aligned with the university鈥檚 commitment to advancing climate innovation as a research priority, 51猎奇入口researchers are contributing to the following projects across three PICS programs:
Climate Foresight
- Managing Sustainability Transitions in British Columbia: Analytical Tools, Governance Frameworks, and Transitions Management Practice, led by UVic鈥檚 Tamara Krawchenko, with Sean Markey from SFU.
- Understanding and Addressing Climate Disinformation in British Columbia, led by David Tindall from the University of British Columbia (UBC), with Katya Rhodes from UVic and Nicholas Scott from SFU.
Policy Spark
- Age-Friendly Decarbonization: Health Co-Benefits of Housing Retrofits, led by Atiya Mahmood with Mohammadjavad Nouri, both from SFU.
- Climate-Health Co-Benefits of Vehicle Electrification, led by SFU鈥檚 Vahid Hosseini.
- Sea-to-Sky Passenger Rail: Quantifying Co-Benefits of Mode Shift in B.C., led by SFU鈥檚 Anthony Perl with Lee Haber from the Mountain Valley Institute.
- Allocating Scarce Resources: Grid, Fuel, and Carbon in BC鈥檚 Critical Mineral Mines, led by Brad Griffin and Mark Jaccard, both from SFU.
World Weaving
- Git q峁僺ist谩: Learning together to understand and revitalize herring ecosystems in a warming sea, led by the Kitasoo Xai鈥檟ais and working with Kyle Wilson and Natalie Ban from SFU, and Christina Service with the Kitasoo Xai鈥檟ais Stewardship Authority.
