Solange Fabi茫o鈥檚 础尘补锄么苍颈补 (Projecting on Black) is a 14-part, 9-hour video work made in 2008, of which three parts (c. 150 minutes) will be screened at SFU. 础尘补锄么苍颈补 literally positions viewers alone in the Amazon, with no other human presence. 础尘补锄么苍颈补 breaks with cinematic tradition; projected onto a black screen, its light falls onto the silence of darkness, mirroring the earth鈥檚 state before the light of the sun falls on it. The rainforest is never silent鈥攁s night rapidly falls in the dusk videos, the shift in forest sounds reflects the shift in lighting.
Fabi茫o is originally from Brazil and is now based in New York City. Her practice explores a wide range of art forms, including architecture鈥攕he is currently collaborating with Steven Holl on the Cit茅 de L鈥橭c茅an et du Surf, a museum of oceanic issues in Biarritz, France.
