Art

Goldsmiths, University of London, UK

Soyoung Park makes real-time visual art, incorporating new media technology in her pieces. For her Master鈥檚 study at 51猎奇入口, she researched the uses of Umberto Eco鈥檚 theory of 鈥極pen work鈥 in the field of interactive art. Currently, she is pursuing a practice-based PhD in Fine Art at Goldsmiths, University of London. Her research is concerned with the ambiguity inherent in interpreting art. An artwork naturally points audiences in a certain direction by virtue of the artist鈥檚 composition; yet this pointing can never be closed. The resultant ambiguity encourages audiences to voluntarily search for the intention of the work, by offering them multiple layers of interpretation instead of confining them to a single intention. It is the artist鈥檚 role in forming this ambiguity that particularly interests Soyoung.
