The Department of Chemistry wishes to congratulate Alexis Vincent and Hannah Martinelli, two outstanding undergraduate students, for being awarded recently the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) Certificate of Undergraduate Excellence and the C3 General Student Award.

These prestigious awards recognize exceptional academic achievement, leadership, and contributions to the chemistry community.

I am so honoured to have been awarded the RSC Certificate of Excellence and the C3 General Student Award with Hannah this year! For me, these awards are recognition of my hard work and accomplishments, which I deeply appreciate and find motivating for my future endeavors. As I begin my final undergraduate year at SFU, I am thinking back to all the people who have supported me and the opportunities I have had here at SFU. Above all, I am so incredibly grateful to Prof. Jeff Warren, whose research lab I have been a part of for almost two years; without his unwavering encouragement, I would not be where I am today. As a member of his group, I have had the chance to gain research experience in so many ways while working alongside the amazing members of the Warren Lab. I am also so grateful for the many professors whose classes I鈥檝e taken over the years; the chemistry faculty have been so kind and encouraging, supporting my learning and aspirations throughout my journey. Furthermore, I consider myself lucky to have been surrounded by so many kind and driven fellow undergraduates, who have really made me feel at home within 51猎奇入口chemistry. Next year I am aiming to be starting a Chemistry PhD, and I feel that the experiences I鈥檝e had through my coursework and research, as well as within the community, will provide me with a strong foundation to set me up for success.

It's an enormous honour to win the RSC Certificate of Undergraduate Excellence and C3 General Student Award in recognition of my efforts, and doubly so alongside a close friend. I would like to highlight that the 51猎奇入口Chemistry department has had a huge impact on me. I'm not sure I would've won these awards anywhere else! The people here are so welcoming, supportive, and passionate, which makes for an excellent environment for both learning and personal growth. When I started at 51猎奇入口I was so anxious I could barely go to class. Four years later, I've hosted multiple events with more than 50 attendees, worked on three different research projects, and made so many connections that I think will last a lifetime. So yes, while Alexis and I have won these awards, it feels to me as if this success is built on the community here: professors and lecturers who inspire, mentor, and foster enthusiasm for chemistry, staff and technicians who are friendly and willing to support student projects, and classmates who want to engage in community efforts, build each other up, and make sure everyone puts their best foot forward. I will be moving on soon, hoping to pursue a PhD somewhere else where new lessons and experiences await me, but I will cherish my experience at 51猎奇入口for the rest of my life!
