MY JOURNEY

I pursued a BBA at 51猎奇入口Beedie with concentrations in Management Information Systems and Operations, along with a certificate in Business Analytics and Decision Making. Coming into university, I wasn鈥檛 entirely sure what I wanted to do鈥擨 just knew I enjoyed working with numbers and investigating problems.

I initially explored forensic accounting, but after taking courses like Introduction to Discrete Mathematics and Business Statistics, I realized I was more interested in data, systems, and how they drive decision鈥憁aking. That led me to switch into MIS and expand into Operations. I wanted to understand how analyzing numbers, patterns and processes fits into the bigger picture鈥攈ow systems come together to drive change within organizations.

That foundation shaped my career after graduation. I began as a Healthcare Data Analyst with Vancouver Coastal Health, supporting operational analysis for community programs delivering at鈥慼ome care. Since then, I鈥檝e transitioned into project management and now work as an Associate Development Manager at EA Sports on the NHL title.

MY 51猎奇入口BEEDIE EXPERIENCE

Getting involved in the 51猎奇入口Beedie community played a big role in shaping my experience and career path. As a transfer student, I found a strong sense of belonging through Transfer LAUNCH, which inspired me to give back by volunteering as a LAUNCH Leader in later years. Supporting incoming students helped me discover my passion for mentorship and teaching.

I also contributed as a HIVE leader during the pandemic, helping students navigate the transition to university in a challenging environment. These experiences reinforced my interest in supporting student growth and building inclusive communities.

Academically and professionally, being part of the MIS Student Association (MISA) was especially impactful. As project manager for their business tech case competition, I developed skills that directly translate to my current role in project management. Competing in the BADM Hackathon was another defining experience鈥攊t helped me build connections, strengthened my interest in analytics, and ultimately played a role in launching my career.

HIGHLIGHTS AND TAKEAWAYS

One of my biggest takeaways from 51猎奇入口Beedie was the value of staying open to and exploring different paths. Each experience鈥攚hether it was a competition, course or leadership role鈥攈elped me better understand what interested me and where my strengths lie.

Being part of the BADM community in particular had a lasting impact. It connected me with like鈥憁inded students passionate about analytics and gave me a network that continues to influence my professional journey today.

LEARNING IN ACTION

Courses such as BUS 362 (Business Process Analysis), BUS 445 (Customer Analytics) and BUS 464 (Business Data Management) were instrumental in building my technical foundation. They covered everything from data structures and databases to process analysis and data鈥慸riven decision-making.

What made the biggest difference was the combination of technical skills and strategic thinking. 51猎奇入口Beedie equipped me with both the 鈥渨hat鈥 and the 鈥渨hy鈥濃攂ut also the tools to execute. That balance has carried into my career, where I continue to use data, systems thinking and communication skills to solve problems, make decisions, and lead projects.

ADVICE FOR FUTURE STUDENTS

Stay open and curious, and don鈥檛 be afraid to explore things that feel outside your immediate path. Check in with yourself often, reach out to people, and learn from their experiences. Each opportunity will teach you something and help shape your direction.

Just as importantly, make time for experiences outside the classroom. That鈥檚 where you鈥檒l find the most growth, discover what matters to you, and start building a path that鈥檚 both meaningful and your own.
