1.0 BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE
1.1 51猎奇入口鈥檚 Financial Investments are made in compliance with the , the Investment Governance Policy (B10.09), and the Endowment Management Policy (GP20).
1.2 The following principles guide the University鈥檚 Financial Investments:
1.2.1 The University is an institution that has the tools of research, academia, and public policy influence within its community; it believes that engagement is the best means of influencing corporate behaviour.
1.2.2 The University defines Responsible Investing as an approach to managing its financial assets that aligns investment decisions with institutional values, academic mission, and fiduciary duty.
1.2.3 The approach includes integrating environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors into investment analysis and stewardship to support sustainable long-term performance and positive societal outcomes.
1.2.4 The University will make investment decisions that are consistent with the University鈥檚 obligations to make investments that a prudent person would make and that meet the University鈥檚 fiduciary obligations with respect to the Investment Governance Policy (B10.09) and Endowment Management Policy (GP20).
2.0 GLOSSARY
The definitions define the words used in the Responsible Investment Policy (B10.16).
2.1 Board means the Board of Governors of the University.
2.2 Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Integration means the analysis of all material factors in investment analysis and investment decisions, including environmental, social, and governance factors.
2.3 Financial Investments or Funds means endowment funds and non-endowment funds.
2.4 Managers means external investment Managers engaged by the University to manage all or a portion of its Financial Investments.
2.5 Responsible Investing (RI) means integrating ESG factors through active ownership, engagement and other activities, in a manner that aligns with the University鈥檚 long-term mission, supports positive societal outcomes, and enhances risk-adjusted financial returns. Such systemic ESG factors include governance, climate change and nature, and human rights.
2.6 51猎奇入口or University means 51猎奇入口.
3.0 SCOPE AND JURISDICTION
3.1 This policy applies to all endowment funds and non-endowment funds.
4.0 POLICY
4.1 This policy is consistent with the which states that the Board must make investment decisions 鈥溾hat a prudent person would make鈥 and with policies B10.09 and GP20. Where there is a conflict between this policy and the latter policies, the requirements of B10.09 and GP20 will take precedence.
4.2 As an institutional investor, 51猎奇入口has a fiduciary duty to act in the best long-term interests of its beneficiaries.
4.3 Responsible Investing reflects the University鈥檚 commitment to act as a principled and accountable institutional investor, in accordance with ESG principles and 51猎奇入口values.
4.4 The University continues to advance low carbon investment strategies through active stewardship and engagement in support of climate action, resilience and sustainability, innovation and adaptability.
4.5 The University鈥檚 Responsible Investing approach includes ESG integration in investment decisions, active ownership through delegated engagement and proxy voting, alignment with institutional values, systematic monitoring and transparent reporting.
4.6 The University is committed to aligning with international responsible investment standards and to participating in collective initiatives that foster positive change.
4.7 The University, through external investment Managers, engages with companies to influence change. Divestment is reserved for cases where engagement has failed or when holding an investment clearly undermines our mission, and such divestment would not be inconsistent with the requirements of prudent investing.
4.8 The University will adopt a balanced approach to Responsible Investing and investment decision-making. It will conduct rigorous due diligence to ensure that Funds are utilized in a manner that maximizes their benefit in advancing the University's educational and research activities, thereby contributing to the broader benefit of the University.
4.9 The officer or department designated by this policy鈥檚 associated procedures is authorized to
(a) monitor and evaluate Responsible Investing strategies as set out in those procedures and
(b) develop any internal processes required to implement Responsible Investing strategies at the University.
5.0 REPORTING
5.1 The University is committed to transparency and accountability through regular reporting on responsible investment activities and outcomes. Reports on Responsible Investing will be provided to the Board as described in the procedures.
6.0 INTERPRETATION
6.1 The legal and other University Policy authorities and agreements that may bear on the administration of this policy and may be consulted as needed include but are not limited to:

6.2 Questions of interpretation or application of this policy or its procedures shall be referred to the policy sponsor, whose decision shall be final.
7.0 REVISION HISTORY AND MANDATED REVIEW DATE
7.1 This policy must be reviewed every three years and may always be reviewed as needed.
